Winter 2011 workshop
In preparation for another epic mosaic on campus, these students got their hands dirty in a workshop. A local surf shop, Emerald City, donated skateboards to the kids for an exhibition at the shop in the spring. |

Fall 2008 Workshop
In preparation for a large future mosaic (The Universe) on campus,
the kids each made their own smaller mosaic to learn the techniques.
This group excelled in miniscule tile pieces and in glass cutting and grinding.

Math in Nature 2008
This mosaic was made by and for students at Coronado
High School in the spring of 2008 under my supervision.
In order to create a sense of community, no one student designs the mosaic. All contribute and all work together using projected images. In this way, the students not only learn how to cooperate but also an interesting application of Photoshop in the process. |

Spring 2007 Workshop
In this Workshop, my students were taught glass cutting and grinding skills in addition to basic mosaic skills. Each student was provided with a selection of different shapes and sizes of plywood to work with. Each time I teach a new group of students I cover design skills, mosaic art history color theory. This intensive workshop not only provides the students with a solid background on mosaic making, but also gives them an idea of whether or not they'd like to work on a larger, collaborative piece. |

The Sweet Piece 2006
This mosaic was made by and for students at Coronado
High School in the spring of 2006 under my Supervision.
In order to create a sense of community, no one student designs the mosaic. All contribute and all work together using a method I created with my colleagues at Coronado High School utilizing computers. In this way, the students not only learn how to cooperate but also an interesting application of Photoshop in the process.
Take a look at this great mosaic from drawing onto the wall to the final grouting. |

Fall 2001 Workshop
In this workshop, each student was provided with a selection of different shapes and sizes of plywood to work with. This was the first workshop I ever taught, and it led to the creation of the Concert in the Park mosaic as well as many subsequent collaborations with Coronado High School. In fact, mosaic has become an integral part of the High School's culture now, in 2008. |
